July Wrap Up + August TBR

Howdy y'all! 

So I went a bit crazy in the month of July and I will let you know why. I bought all the books. Literally. I bought over 30 books this month. I do not know what I was doing, apparently just buying every single book that I wanted. It was insane. Plus, I got my monthly OwlCrate box and 12 candles from Novelly Yours. Yes, you read that right, 12. Granted, my boyfriend bought 6 of them for me, but still. What am I supposed to do with 12 candles all at once! Oh, and a mug from ButterMyBooks!

• Luna Lovegood Pop Funko - I really wanted Dobby or Draco but I am completely happy with Luna, she is awesome!
• Millennium Falcon Necklace from Vector Engraving - I have great respect for the Star Wars franchise, but I am not a huge fan of them.
• An Alice Magnetic Bookmark from Jane's Tiny Things - I love Alice in Wonderland so I am very excited for this bookmark! Even though I don't use them because I feel they damage pages...
• A hand designed quote sticker from the book Illuminae by Amie Kaufamn and Jay Kristoff designed by the very talented Drop and Give Me Nerdy - This immediately went on my laptop! I love this sticker!
• And last but not least: This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab - I am super excited for this book! I have heard great things about it. It is also the August book for a book club I just joined/helped founded. Go check it out!

Book Tag: Pokemon Go!

Pokemon Go has taken over the world and I love it. I will admit that I barely go outside to actually play but that is because I live in Texas and have a full time job. But that is besides the point. I always played Pokemon as a kid and I am so excited to have a new way to play!

I started with Charmander because I love that little fiery devil! He is so adorable, how could I not? I have always had a place in my heart for Charmander and his evolutions ever since my brother tricked me into trading my Super Rare Charzard card for some random useless one. I was like 5. 

My starter book was The Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborn. My mom used to read those to my brother and I throughout our childhood and I absolutely loved them. We used to sit in our tree house all cuddled together reading and enjoying the books as a family! 

I love Pikachu. I need to catch one so that I can feel fulfilled in my life. Yes, that is what I need for fulfillment. 

Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Rick Riordan is one of my favorite authors and I love every Greek/Roman mythology book that he has put out. He is great and pretty much solidified my love of reading in the fourth grade. I love him and his books. 

THEY ARE FREAKING EVERYWHERE. They're also impossible to catch because they're always flying around and dodging your pokeball. 

The Twilight Series. They are everywhere. There is still like 30 copies of each book in every Half-Price bookstore I go into. It's crazy.

Julie Kagawa's Talon series reminds me a lot of Sophie Jordan's Firelight series. The story is pretty dang similar in the first book. After that, they differ. But when I first read it all I could think was "This is Firelight."

I wish I was Snorlax sometimes. Not the size of him, but the fact that he just sits around all day and sleeps. I would freaking love that. 

Game of Thrones. 100%. My boyfriend bought them for me for Valentine's Day two years ago and I still haven't picked them up. I also have them in eBook form and still haven't read them... They scare me. 

Gengar always terrified me. I hate ghosts so I stayed as far away from this Pokemon as possible. I don't think I've caught him yet in Pokemon Go! 

There has been so many. As a college student, I don't have a lot of time for reading so I sacrifice sleep for it. The one I can think of most recently was Princess of Tyrone. I finished that book in mere hours but I started it at about midnight. 

The only all-nighter that I have pulled for a book was for Breaking Dawn. I loved that series and I needed to read Breaking Dawn as quickly as possible. 

"Of course, you could also have Nidoking/Nidoking and Nidoqueen/Nidoqueen and everything else in between." - Read at Midnight. I honestly forgot about these Pokemon...

My book OTPs are many and varied, but currently my heart bleeds for Kaz/Inej (Six of Crows), Feysand (ACOMAF), Rowaelin (Throne of Glass), Jace/Clary (City of Bones), Kat/Daemon (Obsidian), and Alex/Aiden (Half-Blood). 

I love Rapidash. I always thought it was so freaking cute. 

An action packed book that I have read recently would be Rebel of the Sands. That book was non-stop action from start to finish and I loved every page of it. 

I LOVE EEVEE. It is so cute and adorable that I just want to smoosh it and hug it. I also love all of its evolutions. I want them all. 

I will never get sick of seeing spin-offs for Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Her writing is so amazing and I adore all of her characters. 

"As you well know, this lowly fish will one day be a fearsome Gyarados. First, I need to catch about 100 more Magikarps so I can have enough candy for this evolution. HOW?" - Read at Midnight

I have to say Widlefire by Karsten Knight took me by surprise. Not many people were talking about this book and it was getting mixed reviews and I went into it a little apprehensively. I love it though. It was such a beautifully written book and a well thought out story. 

I really don't have a favorite legendary. They keep making them and I can't remember half of them. But I have always loved Zapados. He is pretty great. 

I am a terrible book nerd, but the Harry Potter Series. Yes, I will admit it. I have never read the books. I have watched all of the movies and I love the world, I just haven't had time to pick up the books. 

I cheated when I was younger in order to get a Mew. I had an action replay and I caught a level 100 Mew. In the wild. That thing was legit. 

I really don't have a collectors edition that I wish I owned. I don't really like them that much. I think they're gorgeous, but I'll keep my original covers, thanks. 

I have only hatched like one egg, like I said, its hot and I'm lazy. Yet, I have a full bag of them, so lets get walking. 

None really come to mind. I just got back into the blogging world and haven't seen many new debut authors lately. :'(

I live right next to a public park, so I never have to use my own! Muhahah. Again, it's not like I actually go outside though. 

Author's that I will automatically buy their books are Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Miranda Kenneally, Rick Riordan, Cassandra Clare, Aimee Carter, and Marissa Meyer.

THEY SEEM TO ALWAYS BE DOWN. They need to be fixed. The game always seems to be lagging or just being plain annoying. Fix your dang servers. 

I always seem to be waiting for the next Sarah J. Maas book, Jennifer Armentrout, or Cassandra Clare. Those are all books I am constantly waiting for.

After having her son, Alison started reading again and fell in love with Contemporary Romance. Reading made her happy and gave her something to do when she had downtime. As she started to read more, she started to noticed things she really enjoyed in a book and things she didn’t. She began to have ideas for writing one of her own. We walked all the way back to the manor instead of traveling by the much faster metal pathways. While he didn’t say as much, I understood that Micah wanted the extra time to clear his head, and I was content to while away the rest of the morning with him. “I’m still a bit… grumpy about being cheated out of our wedding night,” I muttered as we walked.

“Grumpy?” Micah repeated. We’d stopped beside a stream to relax and splash some cool water on our faces. “That is not quite the word I would have chosen.”
“Really?” I’d found a stubby branch, and was doodling in the mud while I sat on a rock, my back to the water. “And what word would you choose, General Silverstrand?”
“Hush. I have not filled that role for a long, long time.” He leaned over and nuzzled the soft spot behind my ear. “Lonely. Bereft. Frustrated. Unmarried.”
“Micah, it’s only been one night.”
“Yes, but until our marriage is consummated, we are not as one. The officiant said as much during our ritual.”
I recalled the actual words of the ceremony—at the time, I’d been too elated to dissect their meaning, but Corporal Rawson had said, “And once you know her as your wife, you are forever joined as one.” I hadn’t realized that that was what they meant, but I suppose it made sense. At least it was an easier requirement than babies.
“Are all marriages like that?” I asked. I felt Micah’s mouth curl into a smile.
“I don’t know. I have only been married once.” He nipped at my ear and added, “As for this marriage, I know that I must lie with you to seal our vows.”
“Well,” I murmured, stretching my neck for more kisses, “I guess we’d better get on that.”
“I agree.” Micah leaned forward to kiss me on the mouth, but he halted when he saw the result of my mud doodles. I had stabbed and slashed at the ground until it looked like a rabid buffalo had churned up the soil. “Sara, what is troubling you?”
Normally, I would have denied any troubles in favor of more kissing, but that’s pretty hard to do when the evidence is right in front of you. “Do… do you think it’s weird that Dad just showed up? I mean, we’ve been looking for him forever, and he just walks right up to the front door?”
Micah pursed his lips, taking a deep breath before he replied. “Weird? Perhaps. However, your father’s return is an unprecedented turn of good fortune. And on our wedding day, no less.”
“I love it when you say that.”
“What?”
“‘Our wedding day.’”
Micah took the stick from me and pulled me to my feet. “Soon, I will be telling you about our wedding night.” He tossed the stick into the stream and tugged me back toward the road and the manor. “Come, my love, my wife, and let me bring you home.”

I don’t know how long I remained by the cliff staring down at Andrea’s broken body, so unnaturally still in her white shroud of snow. I don’t know how long I remained by the cliff lost in a world of my own. A world beyond feelings, beyond reason. A world in which, I came to believe, time could flow backwards, and as long as I didn’t move, didn’t breathe, it was still possible to reverse its course. Andrea would rise from the ledge and climb to my side, and her blood would be warm again inside her body and not a red stain over the snow.
I don’t know how long I remained by the cliff dreaming impossible dreams. Then somewhere down in the valley, a horse neighed and broke the spell.
I shivered. The rush of the fight had left me by now, and the bitter wind blowing through the mountain had covered my body with a frozen dust. If I didn’t leave soon I would freeze to death. Forcing my stiff legs to move, I turned my back to the ledge and started walking.
I didn’t remember going back into the cave and retrieving the sword and the knife from the bear’s body. I didn’t remember grabbing the cloak or picking up Andrea’s arrow from the ground or walking down the mountain. The next thing I remember is someone calling my name.
I shook my head to clear my mind and looked around. I was back in the oak grove where we had tethered the horses, and Irene stood in front of me.
I let go of the hilt of the sword I’d instinctively grabbed, and nodded to the girl whose waif-like face was tense with fear.
“Julián?”
I tried to talk. But no words came.
Irene moved closer and reached for my face. “You’re hurt, Julián. Let me help you.”
“There is no time. We must go. Now. Get the horses ready. I’ll get Theodorica.”
Turning my back on her, I entered the copse.
Her feet and hands bound, a dirty rag over her mouth, Theodorica was sitting on a stump. Her eyes full of contempt didn’t leave mine as I approached her, and when I removed her gag, she spat at me.
In anger, I lifted her and held her against the closest tree. Theodorica struggled like a wild animal trying to break free, and as I fought her back, something snapped inside my mind, turning the throbbing ache at Andrea’s loss into a feral urge to make Theodorica mine. Forcing her face still with one hand, I kissed her. I kissed her long and hard. Not because I cared for her, but because Andrea was dead and she alive, and in the aftermath of death we crave life.
I kissed her out of pain, out of anger and despair. Out of hate. I kissed her until her body grew willing under mine. Only then, I pulled back.
Without a word, I cut her bonds.
Theodorica stared at me.
“You got your wish, my lady,” I said in answer to the question she had not asked. “I’m coming with you to the Arab’s camp.”

Carmen Ferreiro Esteban is the author of the medieval fantasy Two Moon Princess (Tanglewood Press 2007), and Immortal Love (Crimson Romance 2012). Her own translation into Spanish of Immortal Love can be found under the title Bécquer eterno.
