About FIRE IN YOU (Standalone Contemporary Romance Releasing November 28, 2016):
From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page…
Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.
She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.
Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

EXCERPT:

Brock’s gaze flickered over my face and the line of his jaw softened. “It’s been a really long time since you and I have sat and talked to one another. I know you have every reason to hate me. I don’t blame you.” “I don’t hate you.” That twisting motion in my chest picked up. What I had said was true. Maybe at one point I did. Okay. I’m sure I had, but I’d never been one to hate anyone. It just wasn’t in me. Well, I hated plenty of fictional characters, but some people would claim they didn’t count. I drew in a shallow breath and repeated, “I don’t hate you.” Brock was still as he stared at me, a flicker of surprise and relief mingling across his chiseled features. “I’m…I’m glad to hear that.” I pushed all that mess aside and focused. “Why are you even the GM? You’ve probably made enough money to live a very, very long time without having to worry about a paycheck.” “I have. When I retired from professional fighting two years ago, I could’ve lived quite comfortably for the rest of my life.” I wanted to ask why he’d retired so young. At his age, he still had a couple of more years left, but I resisted the urge. “So why take this job?” A frown started to appear. “Do you really need to ask me that?” Before I could respond, he lifted a hand, thrusting his fingers through his hair as he said, “Your father saved my life. That’s not an exaggeration. You know that. If it hadn’t been for him, I would’ve died on those streets. The Academy became my life and it is a part of me. This company is important to me, and even if I’m not fighting, representing the Academy, I still need to be a part of it.” Lowering my gaze, I squirmed in my chair. Of course I knew that. No matter what had happened, that would’ve never changed for him. “I love scouting, looking for fresh talent,” he continued. “As the GM, I can still do that. I can give back to your father for everything he did for me. I need to do that. Especially considering how badly I let him down.” “How in the world did you let my father down?” I asked, genuinely curious. “You’ve won championships for him. Brought so much attention to the—” “That’s not what I’m talking about.” Tone serious, he held my gaze. “You never told him why you were at Mona’s that night.” I stilled. “If you had, he would’ve—” My eyes snapped to his. “Brock.” “And I would’ve deserved everything I had coming to me,” he continued, leaning forward. “And the only reason why I never told him you were there because of me was because you made me promise not to.” Closing my eyes, I pressed my lips together. I had made him promise not to say a word. I’d begged him, because I knew what would happen if he’d been honest. Brock would’ve lost everything. The knot was back, expanding in my throat. I couldn’t sit here and think and talk about these kinds of things if I was going to be able to make this job work. Curling my hands together, I opened my eyes. “What happened back then has nothing to do with now. It can’t.” Brock leaned back and straightened. “And I don’t want to talk about it,” I continued, struggling to keep my voice steady. “We don’t need to talk about any of that for us to work together.” He was silent for a moment, his body deviously relaxed, but he was like a coiled cobra, and could strike at any moment. “I don’t agree with that, but I’ll let it go.” Some of the tension seeped out of my shoulders even though I had a feeling there was an unspoken “for now” at the end of what he said. “That’s all, then? I would like to get my office set up and get to work.” Brock nodded and pushed off the desk. Walking around it, he scanned the paperwork on his desk. “I do believe we have a meeting today with the sales team. Two o’clock.” “Sounds good.” I rose on oddly shaky legs and turned to the door. Everything felt surreal. “Jillian.” Stopping, I faced him. “Yes?” His shoulders rose with a deep breath as his gaze drifted over my face once more, and I wondered what he thought about how I looked now. “I really want this to work for us, Jillian,” he said, and I felt the very sharp twisting motion in my chest give one powerful stab. “It’s a second chance for us.”

Audiobook Tour: Heartborn Review + Excerpt

heartborn-tour-banner

HeartbornTitle: Heartborn
Author: Terry Maggert
Release Date: September 1, 2016
Source: Audiobook from TheAudioBookworm
Synopsis:
Her guardian angel was pushed.
Keiron was never meant to be anything other than a hero. Born high above in a place of war and deception, he is Heartborn, a being of purity and goodness in a place where violence and deceit are just around every corner.
His disappearance will spark a war he cannot see, for Keiron has pierced the light of days to save a girl he has never met, for reasons he cannot understand. Livvy Foster is seventeen, brave, and broken. With half a heart, she bears the scars of a lifetime of pain and little hope of survival.
Until Keiron arrives.
In the middle of a brewing war and Livvy’s failing heart, Keiron will risk everything for Livvy, because a Heartborn’s life can only end in one way: Sacrifice.
Fall with Livvy and Keiron as they seek the truth about her heart, and his power, and what it means to love someone who will give their very life to save you.

My Review:
Audio Portion:
The narrator for Heartborn was fantastic. She had a crisp, clear voice that I could perfectly understand even with the speed turned up. She also made the story sound really good. I was more keen on listening to her voice throughout the story because it was so soothing. x
This audiobook was not long; clocking in at 6 hours and 20 minutes. Throughout those six and a half hours (less because I had it on 1.5x speed) I did not lose focus. I even sat down with almost 4 hours left just to finish it because I was so interested.
My one complaint about the narration was that she made all the men sound the same. I could not tell the difference between the male characters as I could the females. It made listening difficult, especially when there was more than one man in the scene.
Story Portion:
I left confused. I really enjoyed the story that was told, don’t get me wrong, but I have questions.
heartborn-graphic-1Such as:
·       Why is Keiron so well adjusted to the human world?
·       What the hell is a Heartborn?
·       How does a 17-year-old have a full time job?
·       Why isn’t Livvy in school?
·       Where does Keiron live in the human world?
I need those to be answered so I can actually understand what the heck is going on in this dang story!
Besides all my questions, I did like the story. Like I said above, I sat down just to listen to the story so I could know what happened! Besides the vagueness, the story was very well written and entertaining.
I absolutely loved Livvy. She is one tough cookie that has not let having half a heart get her down. Even though she can’t fully live life, that doesn’t stop her. She isn’t sad and moping about her situation, instead she does what she can and doesn’t let herself let a moment go by that she isn’t savoring life.
I wish I had more from Keiron’s perspective. He was a very vague character that suddenly appears in Livvy’s life for a few day’s and suddenly she is dating him. Like what? It took me over a year of getting to know my boyfriend before we started dating. That doesn’t just happen! You can’t go around kissing people in a library, that’s not how it works. Though, it might. This was a YA Fantasy novel. Anything can happen in them.

All in all, I loved Heartborn. I need my questions answered and I hope that there is a sequel so I can continue on with the story and also have these pesky questions answered! I do wish I had the book in my hand to follow along with, maybe I would’ve found the answers to some of those questions. Plus, there was some really good quotes that I wished I could’ve highlighted! I would recommend reading or listening to this book if you are into angels and strong female characters. Oh, and one hell of a plot twist.

Excerpt:

Hope shook her head. “You’re as much an idiot now as you were then.”
And then she kissed him.
It caught him a little off guard—he hadn’t expected her to be the one to make the first move, especially after the way the scene in the bathroom had gone down—but Daniel wasted no time taking control. He kissed down her neck, sliding his hands beneath her shirt and skating them up to her body to cup her breasts. They filled his palms, familiar and yet not, all at the same time. He cursed. “Gorgeous Darling, the things you do to me.” He nipped her collarbone. “I’m going to taste you, so if you’re going to change your mind, now’s the time to do it.”
Her only response was to shove her yoga pants down to her knees.
He lifted her onto the counter and disentangled her right leg from the pants so he could spread her fully. He stroked her thighs, pausing when his fingers met the scar. It brought up so many conflicting feelings in him. It was his fault that she had the damn thing, but that didn’t mean he thought of her as less, the way she seemed to think. She was as beautiful now as she’d been at eighteen, and more confident despite her injury. Or maybe because of it. He had no idea.
All he knew was that at some point he was going to have to get up close and personal with her healed injury, and he was going to have to tread very, very carefully to avoid burning what was left of the bridge between him and Hope.
“If you apologize, I might actually kick you.”
That snapped him out of it. As much as he wanted Hope, he had an ulterior motive for pushing her now. All getting distracted by her leg was going to do was fuck up his chance of convincing her to stay, in his house and in his bed. He jerked her to the edge of the counter, spreading her thighs wider. “Don’t scream. You’ll upset Ollie.”
And then he did what he’d been fantasizing about ever since he walked out of her life. Daniel dipped his head and gave her center one long lick. She tasted better than he remembered, her body already shaking for him, so he used his thumbs to part her folds and licked her again, reacquainting himself with every inch of her.
“Oh.”
He looked up her body to find her head thrown back and her chest rising and falling with each harsh breath. “Take off your shirt.”
Hope wasted no time obeying, dragging the material over her head and tossing it away. And then there was nothing hiding her body from his gaze. He licked her again, savoring the way she shook. A tattoo curling around the bottom of her ribs caught his eye, but he was too distracted to read it.
He was tired of teasing her. He wanted to feel her orgasm again, to know she was coming apart at the seams because of him. Daniel sucked her clit into his mouth, stroking the sensitive little nub with the flat of his tongue the way she’d always loved. Sure enough, before he had a chance to truly savor her, Hope cried out his name and shuddered, her thighs squeezing his head as she came. He gentled his touches, licks turning to kisses, turning to the slightest brushing of his lips against her. Only when she stopped shaking did he raise his head. “Stay, at least until we figure out what we’re doing.”

My Review:

Fool For You is the final book in the Foolproof Love series by Katee Robert and it did not disappoint.
I found myself flying through this book. It was such a quick, easy read that I was done with it in about three hours. Granted, two of those hours were after midnight and I needed to finish this book so I could stop thinking about it and sleep!
The book jumped right into the action. There was not much time in between the first page and the first steamy scene, which I am not complaining about at all. The only thing about the book that bothered me was that it seemed to be rushing along and developing the story. But, this also made for a quick read that I didn’t have to think much into and just zoom along in reading.

I definitely enjoyed Fool For You even though it was so short. It was the perfect end to the series and I cannot wait to see what Katee Robert has in store for us next!

Review:
Holy moly. You guys are going to need a fan for this book. It is full of sexy scenes that leave you breathless and wanting more. This book was such a quick easy read but was also so so good. I couldn’t put this one down!
This story did not slow down for a single second. From the first page, you were thrown headfirst into the action and it didn’t stop until the very last page. I loved every bit of this story. I been in a bit of a reading slump and this book helped me out of it. I finished it in a few hours (not including passing out from exhaustion) and it was great.
Gemma was one tough cookie to crack, but it was all an act. As my old assistant principal says, “She was like a jelly bean, hard on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside.” A weird comparison, I know, but she was a weird lady. It works for Gemma though. She made up this tough girl persona to protect herself and it made me just want to hug her and break down the wall. As the book progressed, I got to see the real Gemma and I liked the real version so much better than the tough girl, even though I have a similar tough girl act.
Carson is an amazing person. I want a Carson. If you’ve ever watched Grey’s Anatomy and heard of McDreamy, you have the perfect picture of Carson. He was sweet, caring, protective, strong, and all other good adjectives. I loved Carson’s character. Of course he wasn’t perfect, but he was pretty great. He had all the right characteristics of an amazing man and I loved him. I also want a doctor to take care of me because I am a mess. :p
Guys, read this book. It is worth it to read and enjoy this book! If you are looking for a quick little romance to satisfy your cravings, Engaging the Bachelor is the perfect book!

I have an excerpt for y'all! I really enjoyed this book, so I'm super excited to share this part of the book with y'all. Enjoy!

Excerpt:
Carson scrubbed his hand over his face, his gaze locked on Gemma as she worked the room. Teeth flashing in a brilliant smile, she peered into the dark corner, her confident steps slowing, more cautious as she approached. Another few steps brought her closer, into his personal space, and then all of a sudden her feet came to a resounding halt. When their gazed clashed, her eyes went wide, like she’d seen a ghost.
He supposed she had.
She searched for the nearest chair to support herself, but her hand faltered and pushed it out of reach. As the metal legs scraped over the wood floor, Gemma sucked in a quick breath, and faltered backward, her too high heels failing her trembling legs this time. Before she toppled, Carson moved swiftly. He pushed from his chair, took three measured steps, and gathered her into his arms.
The instant he touched her, sexual energy arced between them. Forget the emergency back-up system at the hospital. With the barest of touches they could generate enough electricity to light up an entire New York block in a black out—for a solid week. He dipped his head, his mouth inches from hers. Her enticing floral scent seeped under his skin and took him back to the day he’d had her beneath him. Jesus. He drew on every ounce of strength he possessed to stop himself from reacquainting his lips with hers, to lose himself in the sweetness of her mouth—between her legs.
He brushed his knuckles over her warm cheek, a soft caress that brought heat to her dark, honey flecked eyes. “Hi Gemma,” he whispered, pitching his voice low, for her ears only.
For one shocked moment she just stood there, then she drew in a quick, shaky breath. “Sailor boy?” Those soft, barely there words fluttered past trembling lips and washed over his face, filling him with a need he hadn’t experienced in a long time. As her voice vibrated through him, his pulse skyrocketed, his cock throbbing against his zipper. It clamored to get out, to feel her soft palms wrapped around it. Christ, he couldn’t stop thinking about the ways she’d explored him that night, her hands curious, her touch urgent, needy, looking for so much from him. His blood flowed thick and heavy and he clenched down on his teeth, fighting to keep himself in check. Thank fuck he wasn’t wearing scrubs. He didn’t need everyone in the bar knowing he was sporting the hard on of the century.
“Yeah, it’s me, but the name is Carson.” She stared at him wide eyed, her chest rising and falling in an erratic pattern. “Say it,” he whispered in a soft voice. She shook her head, like she was trying to wrap her brain around this turn of events. He touched her chin lightly, softly brushing his thumb over her cheek, waiting, as she grounded herself in the moment. “Say it, Gemma,” he repeated.
A long pause and then she murmured, “Carson.” Her voice was soft, sultry, sensuously low and caressed his cock in the most mind fucking ways.
“The next time you’re in my bed, that’s the name you’re going to use.”
She stiffened, but he held her tighter, not daring to let her out of his hold this time.  No, this time he was damn well determined to find out who she was and why she’d given her virginity to a boy she’d didn’t even know—and never intended to see again.

I have an excerpt for y'all today! I hope you guys enjoy!

Cate shielded her eyes from the sun’s glare as she and the other grommets surged into the stadium. Thunderous applause and a vociferous roar rolled around the arena. The stands were packed with thousands of hazy faces and muted colours. Something brushed past her head, ripping at her scalp. Her fingers came away warm and sticky, stained crimson. The grommet to her right smashed face first into the soil, an arrow protruding from his back. She slammed to the ground, flattening herself against the dirt floor.

The twang as arrows left their bows was followed by the wet, dull thunk as they found a target. Cate scrambled away from a lifeless body that collapsed across her legs and searched frantically for the source of the arrows.

Blindfolded Timesurfers lined the stone edge of the arena’s roof. The fletching feathers on the end of the arrow glinted over the curve of the archers’ bare shoulders. Black singlets pulled taut across their chests as they reloaded silver bows and fired with mechanical precision. An arrow grazed Cate’s arm. She scrambled over a motionless lion and ducked behind it. Multiple arrows protruded from its body. She pressed her cheek against its surprisingly soft belly. Blood seeped around the gaping holes in the grimy tan coat. It resembled a ghoulish Dalmatian.

Rhonda Sermon lives in the mostly sunny Perth, Western Australia with her husband and two children.
Her debut young adult urban fantasy novel Timesurfers was a finalist in the Young Adult category and overall runner up in the The Strongest Start 2012 Contest hosted by TheNextBigWriter.com.

Book Tour: Lovegame Excerpt

From Tracy Wolff:
I'm so glad to be here today talking about Lovegame, my June 7th release. This book is a little different than my others—it’s a little darker, a little more psychological, a little more twisted than what I usually write. But every once in a while, for every author, an idea comes along that you just HAVE to write. It’s different, it’s harder, it’s scarier than anything else you’ve ever done, but it just won’t go away no matter how many other books you write before it. For me, Lovegame is that story. I ran from it for a long time because I was scared of it, not to mention desperately afraid that I wouldn’t do it justice. But now that it’s finished and ready to be launched into the world, I have to admit that I’m very, very proud of how it turned out and am thrilled to be able to share an exclusive excerpt with you. Thanks so much for hanging out with me today and I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks! Have a great day!!!!!

Hailed by J. Kenner as an author who “knows how to steam up the pages,” Tracy Wolff delivers a darkly addictive novel of seduction and psychological obsession. The stakes are high in Lovegame, when a movie star with a shattered past meets a man who can either break her or make her whole.
True Crime novelist Ian Sharpe has spent his career writing about serial killers for very personal reasons. For his latest exposé, he is taking on the sadistic madman known as the Red Ribbon Strangler, and when his research leads him to Hollywood’s most private and provocative actress, he will break every rule to uncover her truth.

The daughter of one of Hollywood’s golden couples, chased by paparazzi and treated as a commodity her entire life, Veronica Romero wields her sex appeal like a weapon. She expects Ian to be as easy to control as every other man she’s ever known. But from the beginning, he refuses to fall into line. Mysterious and cool, challenging and just a little bit dangerous, Ian somehow makes her feel safe—even as he digs into the deepest secrets of her life and pushes her to the breaking point.

As raw ecstasy gives way to agonized truths, their dark obsession exposes secrets that have been buried for far too long. Ian wants to tear down her walls and heal the sensual woman underneath. But if Veronica’s learned anything, it’s that the line between pleasure and pain is a narrow one—and when caught between them the only thing that matters is how you play the game.

Advance praise for Lovegame

“Lovegame is a true masterpiece, with thrilling suspense, crazy hot sex, and writing so truly beautiful that it stays with you long after you put the book down. It’s my favorite read of the year by far.”—Sawyer Bennett, New York Times bestselling author of Sugar Daddy

Tracy Wolff collects books, English degrees and lipsticks and has been known to forget where—and sometimes who—she is when immersed in a great novel. At six she wrote her first short story—something with a rainbow and a prince—and at seven she forayed into the wonderful world of girls lit with her first Judy Blume novel. By ten she’d read everything in the young adult and classics sections of her local bookstore, so in desperation her mom started her on romance novels. And from the first page of the first book, Tracy knew she’d found her life-long love. Now an English professor at her local community college, she writes romances that run the gamut from contemporary to paranormal to erotic suspense.

And for all of those who want the unedited version:
Tracy Wolff lives with four men, teaches writing to local college students and spends as much time as she can manage immersed in worlds of her own creation. Married to the alpha hero of her dreams for twelve years, she is the mother of three young sons who spend most of their time trying to make her as crazy as possible.

Excerpt

“When are you going to stop deflecting and actually answer what I ask you?”
She freezes. “Excuse me?”
“I’m here to interview you and the last few questions I’ve asked, you’ve thrown back in my lap. I already know what I think—I’d like your thoughts or this article is going to end being an autobiography.”
“That’s not a bad idea. I’d read your autobiography in a heartbeat.”
“Yeah, well, you’d be the only one.” I take a bite of my burger, give her a minute to figure out that she’s not going to be able to charm her way out of this one. Then I ask again, “So, what is it like?”
Her shoulders tense, and suddenly it’s like a switch flips inside of her. Gone is the friendliness of the last fifteen minutes and in its place . . . in its place is something else entirely. “Being attractive?”
I shoot her a look that tells her to knock off the bullshit. “Being Maxim’s sexiest woman alive seven of the last ten years. Topping Esquire magazine’s sexiest list. Making People’s Most Beautiful list every year for the last decade. Being number one on IMDB’s top one hundred sexiest actresses of all time.” I pause, take a very deliberate sip of my water. “Should I keep going?”
“No. I think I get it.” Her voice is about ten degrees cooler than it was and as she purses her lips, narrows her eyes, I’m reminded of a children’s fairy tale. The better to see—hear—eat—you with, my darling. “It feels exactly like you’d expect it to feel.”
The whole thing is very definitely a warning to lay off this line of questioning, but all it does is intrigue me. And solidify my belief that Veronica Romero would play the hell out of the big, bad wolf.
Too bad I’m not cut out for the role of Little Red.
“Gratifying?” I ask. “Claustrophobic? Unsafe?”
This time when she laughs, it sounds nothing like tinkling bells and everything like high-end sex. I try not to respond, but it’s pretty hard not to notice the way the sound goes straight to my cock like it was designed specifically to get me hard.
“Nothing about this business is safe,” she tells me. “I thought you’d be the last person I’d have to explain that to.”
“All that money, all those bodyguards, and you still don’t feel secure?” It’s a direct salvo, one that hits the mark judging from the way her shoulders tense and the dimple disappears completely. For a moment I mourn its loss, but then I’m too caught up in her transformation to think about anything else.
“Silly, Ian,” she all but purrs as she lightly traces one dark purple fingernail across the back of my hand. She’s dripping sensuality now, wearing her sex appeal like Perrault’s wolf wears its teeth and claws. “In this town, it’s not bodyguards that keep you safe.”
Her fingertip is gliding over the inside of my wrist now, stroking back and forth in a rhythm that takes my dick from semi-aroused to fully hard in seconds. Then again, maybe that’s the way she’s looking at me, eyes hooded, lips wet and parted, cheeks just a little bit flushed.
“So, what does?” I have to clear my throat twice before I can get the question out.
It’s her turn to lift a brow. “I would think that was obvious.” Then she’s sucking her lower lip between her teeth, biting down oh-so gently. Her breath hitches just a little and—fuck—so does mine, though I know exactly what she’s doing. Turns out being forewarned doesn’t always mean forearmed. “I keep myself safe.”
“Touché.” I make a concerted effort to keep my voice—and my hand—steady, even as desire—pure, unadulterated lust—sweeps through me. I ignore it, concentrating instead on the list of questions that I have memorized. “Before we were sidetracked, we were talking about your tendency toward improvisation—”
“But you already got your question,” she tells me, cutting me off. “Several questions, in fact. Now it’s my turn.”
I could push, considering she’s given me a non-answer to pretty much everything I’ve asked her so far. But she’s not the only one who knows how to play games at this table. “Ask away,” I answer, smiling broadly. “I’m an open book.”
“Why do people always say that like it’s a good thing?” she asks, and if possible, her voice is even huskier—even sexier—than it was just a few minutes ago. “An open book only shows you two random pages in the middle of the action. How is that supposed to tell you everything you want to know?”
“I guess that depends on the pages, doesn’t it?”
“Perhaps it does at that.” She looks me over, her eyes lingering on my mouth, my chest, my hands. “What two pages are you going to use to portray me?”
“Whichever two you show me.”
She smiles at that and this time it is the man-slayer she’s so famous for. Her hand is at her throat, her fingers deliberately toying with the amethyst pendant that rests just between her breasts.
“That is exactly what I hoped you’d say.”
I try to ignore the sudden sensation of bite marks on my ass, but it’s not easy. Especially when it hits me that I’ve just lost the first battle of whatever game we’re playing.
