About FIRE IN YOU:
From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page…Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.
She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.
Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about

   EXCERPT

Making my way through the narrow pathways between the tables, I headed back toward the bathroom. Only once I pushed open the double doors and stopped in front of the water-spotted mirror did I realize I’d left my purse at the table, so there’d be no reapplying my lipstick. I pumped soap onto my hands and waved them under the facet. Water flowed, washing away the suds as I slowly lifted my gaze to my reflection. Normally when I looked at myself, I didn’t really pay attention longer than was necessary to put makeup on without ending up looking like a tutorial gone wrong. Standing here now, I really looked at myself, though. I used to wear my hair up all the time, but I’d stopped doing that every day. My hair now hung in waves and the ends curled over the tips of my breasts. I also used to have heavy bangs, but thank God they were long gone. I’d finally learned how to put on eyeliner. That was another miracle. The slight flush of my face darkened my naturally tan skin. My lips were fuller and my nose straight. My hair was parted to sweep to the left so it shielded my cheek…and my cheek didn’t look that bad, especially considering how it looked the first time I’d seen it after…after days in the hospital. Hell, my entire face had been one hot mess. There was a deep indentation in my left cheek, almost like an icepick had been shoved in there, and as I stared at my right jaw line, I was still amazed by what reconstructive plastic surgeons could accomplish. Half my face had literally been pieced back together with an iliac crest graft with a reconstruction plate and a crap ton of dentistry to give me back a full set of functional teeth. Plastic surgeons didn’t have magic wands, but they were magicians. If you weren’t looking at me straight on, you’d have no idea that my right jaw was thinner than my left. You’d have no idea what had happened to me that night. Now I stared back at myself just like I had done that night, six years ago, standing in a bathroom, mere minutes before my entire life came crashing down. It wasn’t that I hated the way I looked now. The fact that I was alive meant I was one of those rare, walking and breathing statistics. But even knowing how lucky I was didn’t change the fact that I felt…deformed. That was a harsh word to use. I didn’t like to whip it out often. Doing so on what was so far a pretty good date was probably not a good idea. Taking a deep breath, I shook my head. I didn’t need my thoughts going in that direction tonight. So far, the dinner had been amazing. Grady was nice and he was cute. I could maybe see myself going out with him again, to an art exhibit, and maybe coffee. And that was what had freaked me out. I was not going to let living freak me out. Nope. I could give him a chance and not worry about whether or not I was settling. Turning from the sink, I dried my hands and then readjusted my hair so it fell forward, over my left shoulder and cheek. I walked out of the bathroom and into the narrow hall, gaze trained on the floor as I took about two steps before I realized someone was standing right outside the door, leaning against the wall. Before I nearly plowed into him. Gasping, I took a step back. All I could see were finely cut black trousers paired with…with old black and white Chucks? What an odd combination, but those shoes reminded me of… I gave a little shake of my head and stepped to the side. “Sorry. Excuse—” “Jillian.” I stopped. Time stopped. Everything stopped except my heart, because it was suddenly pounding in my chest too hard, too fast. That deep, rough voice. I recognized it all the way to my very core. Slowly, I lifted my gaze, already knowing what I was going to see but refusing to believe it. Brock Mitchell stood in front of me.

EXCERPT:

Brock’s gaze flickered over my face and the line of his jaw softened. “It’s been a really long time since you and I have sat and talked to one another. I know you have every reason to hate me. I don’t blame you.” “I don’t hate you.” That twisting motion in my chest picked up. What I had said was true. Maybe at one point I did. Okay. I’m sure I had, but I’d never been one to hate anyone. It just wasn’t in me. Well, I hated plenty of fictional characters, but some people would claim they didn’t count. I drew in a shallow breath and repeated, “I don’t hate you.” Brock was still as he stared at me, a flicker of surprise and relief mingling across his chiseled features. “I’m…I’m glad to hear that.” I pushed all that mess aside and focused. “Why are you even the GM? You’ve probably made enough money to live a very, very long time without having to worry about a paycheck.” “I have. When I retired from professional fighting two years ago, I could’ve lived quite comfortably for the rest of my life.” I wanted to ask why he’d retired so young. At his age, he still had a couple of more years left, but I resisted the urge. “So why take this job?” A frown started to appear. “Do you really need to ask me that?” Before I could respond, he lifted a hand, thrusting his fingers through his hair as he said, “Your father saved my life. That’s not an exaggeration. You know that. If it hadn’t been for him, I would’ve died on those streets. The Academy became my life and it is a part of me. This company is important to me, and even if I’m not fighting, representing the Academy, I still need to be a part of it.” Lowering my gaze, I squirmed in my chair. Of course I knew that. No matter what had happened, that would’ve never changed for him. “I love scouting, looking for fresh talent,” he continued. “As the GM, I can still do that. I can give back to your father for everything he did for me. I need to do that. Especially considering how badly I let him down.” “How in the world did you let my father down?” I asked, genuinely curious. “You’ve won championships for him. Brought so much attention to the—” “That’s not what I’m talking about.” Tone serious, he held my gaze. “You never told him why you were at Mona’s that night.” I stilled. “If you had, he would’ve—” My eyes snapped to his. “Brock.” “And I would’ve deserved everything I had coming to me,” he continued, leaning forward. “And the only reason why I never told him you were there because of me was because you made me promise not to.” Closing my eyes, I pressed my lips together. I had made him promise not to say a word. I’d begged him, because I knew what would happen if he’d been honest. Brock would’ve lost everything. The knot was back, expanding in my throat. I couldn’t sit here and think and talk about these kinds of things if I was going to be able to make this job work. Curling my hands together, I opened my eyes. “What happened back then has nothing to do with now. It can’t.” Brock leaned back and straightened. “And I don’t want to talk about it,” I continued, struggling to keep my voice steady. “We don’t need to talk about any of that for us to work together.” He was silent for a moment, his body deviously relaxed, but he was like a coiled cobra, and could strike at any moment. “I don’t agree with that, but I’ll let it go.” Some of the tension seeped out of my shoulders even though I had a feeling there was an unspoken “for now” at the end of what he said. “That’s all, then? I would like to get my office set up and get to work.” Brock nodded and pushed off the desk. Walking around it, he scanned the paperwork on his desk. “I do believe we have a meeting today with the sales team. Two o’clock.” “Sounds good.” I rose on oddly shaky legs and turned to the door. Everything felt surreal. “Jillian.” Stopping, I faced him. “Yes?” His shoulders rose with a deep breath as his gaze drifted over my face once more, and I wondered what he thought about how I looked now. “I really want this to work for us, Jillian,” he said, and I felt the very sharp twisting motion in my chest give one powerful stab. “It’s a second chance for us.”

Review: Every Last Breath

Every Last Breath (The Dark Elements, #3)

Title: Every Last Breath (The Dark Elements #3)
Author: Jennifer Armentrout
Published: July 28, 2015

Synopsis:
Some loves will last ’til your dying breath
Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.
Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.
Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

Review:
Wow. Jennifer Armentrout has done it again. I couldn’t put this book down, which is really bad for a college student who has classes and homework. Safe to say that the day I read this (which I did read it in a day) I did not do any homework. I did go to class though, which is a good thing.
Every Last Breath was the perfect ending to the series. I was completely satisfied with how the story went and how the book ended. Of course, it being Armentrout, she had to throw in a few plot twists and shock moments, but those just added to my enjoyment of the book. I really enjoyed how the characters progressed and how Layla dealt with it all.
The story was amazing. It picked up right where the last book left off. Which, lucky for me, I didn’t have to wait very long between the two since the series is now finished. The story starts right into the action and you are not left wanting for anything. This book is filled with kick ass action scenes, steamy romance scenes, and of course, Armentrout famous banter that adds hilarity to the story. Her character’s banter is probably my favorite part of the book. I love how all the characters interact and watching how they react to different twists that are thrown in. No spoilers, I swear.
Layla is even more badass in this book than the last. Over the course of the three books, I have watched her change and grow and it is safe to say that I am happy with how she turned out. She is done hiding behind the Wardens. Layla comes into her own in this books. She takes action instead of letting others do it for her. I love how Armentrout doesn’t leave you waiting for Layla’s decisions. Instead of having a weak little girl who can never make up her mind, we get Layla. Within the first 100 pages, Layla has to make a bunch of hard decisions and instead of sitting around and wallowing about them, she does something. I loved watching Layla grow into this beautiful character and I wish that Every Last Breath wasn’t as short that I could read more of her story.
I love Roth. I have always had a thing for the witty bad boys. Roth also changed, even though he refuses to accept his change. He grew into a wonderful man, even though he is still a demon. He changed some of his demonly ways and reading about Roth’s character truly made me happy. Also, I would recommend reading this book if you want to see Roth drunk. That is really hilarious, even though it wasn’t for a good reason, it was still pretty great. Roth is someone I would want in my life in a heartbeat, he brings the fun to every situation. Even when he is staring down the enemy, he is still extremely sassy, and sassy people are my favorite.
Zayne annoys me. Truth be told, he annoyed me through all three books. I just didn’t like Zayne’s character. He seemed to be too perfect, which I guess as a Warden he is pretty great. I was very happy to see less of Zayne’s character in Every Last Breath. He was still around and there, but not as much, especially what happened in Stone Cold Touch. You have to read it though, to find out what exactly happened. Towards the end of the book, Zayne grew up a bit and was a little less annoying. Still, I’m not a fan of his character…
All in all I loved this book. My friends did get annoyed with me because it’s about to be spring break and they won’t see me for ten days. I could not stop reading this. I started it about 15 minutes before class, went to class, and then once I was done with class the only break I took from reading was to eat dinner. I finished the 380 page book in about 4 hours that is how good it was. I would recommend it to pretty much every YA fan. It has romance, fantasy, humor, and action all packaged into one great book.

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine! It showcases books that we can't wait on to come out!
The Problem with Forever

The Problem with Forever
By: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Released: May 17, 2016

For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.
Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.
It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with the lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory faces a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.
Jen is honestly one of my favorite authors. I cannot wait for another book by her. I read everything she publishes and can honestly say that I have loved every single book she has written.

Review: Fall with Me

Fall with Me (Wait for You, #4)

Title: Fall with Me (Wait for You #4)
Author: Jennifer Armentrout or J. Lynn
Published: March 31, 2015

Synopsis:
Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.
Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.
But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

Review:
God…. I love Jennifer Armentrout’s writing. I don’t think anyone understands the love I have for her books, and her latest one out, Fall With Me, was no exception. My love for her books knows no bounds. So when Fall With Me came out, I had to read it. The overall reading took me less than 24 hours and I loved every second of that time. Yes, I understand my excessive use of the word love…
Armentrout is keeping with her fourth spin off in the  Wait For You series. Fall With Me stars two characters mentioned in the previous book, Reece and Roxy. Boy, I loved those two. It also features cameos from other characters in the previous books that honestly, just made me jump up and down with excitement! I never want to see a book end, so adding a few of the main characters just makes me a very happy camper.
Roxy is a spit-fire of a girl who has been dealt a bad hand in life. Yet, you can’t help but love her personality and interesting choices in shirts (read the book, you’ll understand). Her best friend is incapable of speech and functioning on his own, and Roxy feels as if she is to blame for that. Not to mention the guy who was in jail for hurting her friend, was just released. Piled on top of all that of crap, she has a stalker. It’s a wonder this girl was even functioning. She kept going strong and powered on through all the bad in her life. She was a character who was resilient and adorable. I couldn’t help but find a little piece of me in her, which might have to do with the fact that she has purple hair and glasses.
Then there is Reece, the sexy cop and ex-military. He has seen his fair share of violence and jumps right back into the force when he comes home to his small little town to protect the people he grew up with. Reece was an open book throughout the entire story, no matter how much Roxy did her thing and got scared (NA commonality), Reece was always there to make her stay and protect her. He also had that caveman vibe going on that readers can’t decide if they want to smack him or get all giddy over that protective side. He’s a cop, it’s in his nature to be protective. Reece was one of the best male characters Armentrout has written in my opinion. He never failed to protect and just be there for Roxy when she needed him. He was a very good guy. I want a Reece.
Armentrout keeps you entertained from cover to cover. I was laughing at the hilarious banter that Armentrout is known for, scared for the characters, and maybe even a little teary-eyed at certain points. It was a little predictable, I will admit that. Most romance books nowadays are. It was the type of predictable that makes you want to keep reading just to make sure that your predictions are correct and the happy ending comes about.

If you have yet to read anything by Jennifer Armentrout or J.Lynn (which is her pen name) I would definitely recommend the Wait for You series. The books can be read alone, but there are characters and stories mentioned in Fall With Me that could spoil other aspects of the books before. This series is worth the read!
