Blog Tour: Beautiful Disater Review

Title: Beautiful Disaster
Author: Jamie McGuire
Published: May 26, 2012
Source: eGalley

Synopsis:
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University's Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Review:
How do I even begin a review about this book? I have no idea, because it was just that amazing. I loved every second of this book. Beware; this isn’t your typical YA book. It is actually new adult and it deals with adult things. It isn’t suitable for readers under 16 or so. If you’re over 16 then read on! J

Cover:
I really like the cover! It’s super cute! The cover is simple and pretty. To me, it kind of symbolizes a feeling of being trapped, and hating that feeling. Also, I really like the butterfly. J

Plot/Writing:
Every second of this book was an up and down. There were moments when I was jumping for joy, wanting to shake Abby and Travis, and then jumping and squealing again. I loved it. I stayed up till all hours of the night reading Beautiful Disaster! You were drawn into the ups and downs of Travis and Abby’s very messed up relationship. When I say messed up, I mean it. Their relationship wasn’t healthy, but they made it work. I am going to direct you to In between Writing and Reading because she made some great points and I applaud her for this post!

Characters:
Abby was running away from her old life. She spent the whole book with walls up and well, it was a little annoying. There are rare moments when you see her with her walls down and those are when she is the best. She meets Travis in the first scene of the book and you just watch their relationship escalate into something more than friendship. I was amazed by her strength and courage throughout the whole book. I know that at some points she was a little much, but at others it was amazing watching her journey.

Travis is another story. He’s the typical tough boy player who doesn’t let anyone see the real him. Yet, when he’s around Abby he opens up and shows her the real Travis, the one with the crazy family and someone who just wants to be happy and stop fighting everything in his life. There are many different versions of Travis in this book, and yet you love everyone of them. For the most part.

All in all:
I really loved this book. I am writing this book after almost 3 weeks after reading the book and it is still on my mind. If that shows you anything about the book, then you should definitely buy it. Just bare with the book and the characters, it really is an amazing journey of college kids trying to find themselves. Happy reading!

BESTSELLING SELF-PUBLISHED AUTHOR JAMIE MCGUIRE INKS DEAL WITH ATRIA BOOKS, WARNER BROTHERS

(NEW YORK) – July 2012. Atria Books has announced a two book deal with bestselling self-published author Jamie McGuire. BEAUTIFUL DISASTER, the first book in the deal, will be released immediately as an Atria e-book with an Atria trade paperback edition to follow on August 14th. Warner Brothers has won a bidding war to produce a film based on the bestselling book.

BEAUTIFUL DISASTER, McGuire’s fourth novel, was originally self-published as an ebook in May 2011, and as a self-published trade paperback in October 2011. Throughout the spring and summer, it has been steadily rising on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists, recently appearing at #9 on the Times list. The ebook has sold over 200,000 copies in the U.S. and foreign rights have been licensed in ten countries, with more deals pending. Collectively, the book has received over seven thousand overwhelmingly positive reader reviews on BN.com, the Apple iBookstore, Amazon.com and Goodreads.

Judith Curr, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Atria Books, says, “There’s a very good reason that BEAUTIFUL DISASTER has garnered such a large number of glowing reader reviews. As so many of the comments point out, it’s a book that hooks you right from the start and keeps you turning the pages all night.” Filled with romance, passion, and unexpected twists, BEAUTIFUL DISASTER is the story of a young woman who has escaped a painful past only to find herself torn between two men: one who represents safety and security, and another who seems likely to pull her back toward danger. McGuire’s highly anticipated next novel, WALKING DISASTER, will continue this story from a different and surprising point of view. WALKING DISASTER is scheduled for publication in 2013 by Atria Books.

Atria won the rights to the books after a heated bidding war. The deal, for World English rights and audio, was negotiated by Atria editor Amy Tannenbaum with Rebecca Watson of Valerie Hoskins Associates Ltd, the agency that represents EL James, author of Fifty Shades of Grey. Simon & Schuster U.K. will publish in the UK and Commonwealth; Simon & Schuster Audio will publish the audiobook.

“As we celebrate Atria’s tenth birthday, it is the perfect gift to be able to welcome a wonderful, new talent like Jamie to our publishing family,” says Publisher Judith Curr. “Atria has launched numerous successful literary careers and we are confident that this is only the first of many marvelous books we will be seeing from Jamie in years to come.”

  1. Didn't read this one yet, the mixed reviews got me worried. Maybe I should just go ahead, eh? Lovely cover, though, and thanks for the great review :)
